CRS Water has won a contract to design and construct a water treatment plant for Paluma, 80km north of Townsville.
Townsville City Council Water and Waste chairman Paul Jacob said the $550,000 compact water treatment plant would resolve the water quality issues being experienced by local residents.
“Getting the water treatment plant for Paluma was a major priority in this year’s budget and I am glad to see we have acted quickly since we handed down the budget and are delivering this facility,” Cr Jacob said.
The Paluma Treatment Plant will be constructed in a special facility and delivered and installed in the next few months.
Also this week the council awarded a tender worth $294,778 to local consultancy firm Premise for detailed designs for Townsville’s new bus hub in Ogden St.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said community consultation would continue during the design process.
Demolition of a former inner-city hardware store commenced earlier this month to make way for the facility, and the demolition is scheduled for completion by mid-September.
A petition including 268 signatures to have the bus hub relocated was presented at the full council meeting.
