Mount Isa City Council is selling the former Works Depot site on West St to retailer Bunnings.
The council commenced discussions with Bunnings in 2009 for the purchase of the site, with the company lodging a Development Application in May 2017 to construct a Bunnings Warehouse store there.
The council issued a development permit for the project in October that year and the two parties have now finalised negotiations over certain conditions of the Infrastructure Agreement.
“The former Works Depot site has been sitting vacant for almost a decade, so it’s great to see that something will be happening there in the future,” Mayor Joyce McCulloch said.
Bunnings area manager Michael Rodwell said Bunnings was pleased with the outcome.
“We are pleased to have purchased the site and while we have no firm timelines yet, we look forward to working with Mount Isa City Council as things progress,” he said.
