Isa Street Bridge comes in with a bang

The new Isa Street Bridge will officially reopen with a community celebration in December.

Davbridge Constructions was principal contractor for the bridge work – part of a $7.5 million Isa St upgrade and bridge-replacement project.

The official reopening ceremony will include a ribbon-cutting, a car display, live entertainment, market and food stalls, and a jumping castle. It will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, December 13.

The council is currently accepting expressions of interest from members of the public to display their vintage, classic or special car on the bridge during the event.

Mayor Joyce McCulloch said she, along with the rest of council and many others in the community, had been looking forward to the bridge-opening celebrations all year.

“Ever since the old Isa Street Bridge was demolished in mid-May, we have been eagerly watching and waiting as the new bridge gradually takes shape,” Cr McCulloch said.

“The old bridge was almost 90 years old and there was a lot of history and memories attached to it, but I’m confident the community will love the new bridge, which will be taller and wider and have much better flood immunity than the old one.

“I also encourage any locals with a special or classic car they would like to show to the community by having it parked on the bridge during the reopening to submit their expression of interest to council.”
