Local contractor Jackson + Semler has won the contract to redevelop the Tobruk Memorial Baths in Townsville and is expected to start work early next month.
The project is expected to support 120 jobs, according to Townsville City Council.
Townsville Deputy Mayor Les Walker said awarding the construction tender to a local company helped ensure profits remained within the city.
“Jackson + Semler is a reputable company in the construction industry who have worked on some of Townsville’s biggest infrastructure projects recently like the Local Disaster Coordination Centre and the North Queensland Stadium,” Cr Walker said.
“Council is committed to investing ratepayer’s money back into the pockets of Townsville locals while delivering first-class infrastructure projects right across the city.
“This $11.3 million redevelopment is part of Council’s $409.1 million infrastructure spend and capital investment in the 2019/20 Budget which is providing infrastructure that will build our city’s future.”
