Aurizon has secured a two-year deal expanding its bulk sugar haulage operations with Wilmar Sugar Australia.
The agreement will see Aurizon transport about 245,000 tonnes of bulk sugar a year from the Proserpine mill to Mackay harbour and 60,000 tonnes of molasses from Burdekin mills to Port of Townsville from this month.
This is in addition to its existing Wilmar contract for 1.2 million tonnes of bulk sugar from the Burdekin region.
Aurizon executive vice-president, commercial and marketing, Mauro Neves said the new contract guaranteed rail capacity to Wilmar and met Aurizon’s needs commercially as the business grew.
“Sugar plays an important part in Aurizon’s diverse portfolio of bulk freight businesses in Queensland which range from minerals and fertiliser to agricultural commodities and livestock,” he said.
