SMEC will provide construction administration services on the $514.3 million Haughton River Floodplain Upgrade project south of Townsville.
The company described its involvement as a significant win for SMEC’s Townsville office and said it looked forward to working with the Department of Transport and Main Roads and principal contractor The Infrastructure Group (TIG) to deliver this significant project.
The major roadworks project is progressing under a ‘design and construct’ model, with The Infrastructure Group (TIG) to design and deliver the upgrades.
SMEC’s role is to ensure the construction contract is executed in accordance with the terms of the contract.
The project will include construction of five new bridges; construction of two highway overpasses of existing canetramway
open-level crossings; and the upgrade of 13.5km of the Bruce Highway across the Haughton River floodplain.
