Santos has won a tender to explore for gas across more than 2000sq km of highly prospective land between Chinchilla and Roma.
Meanwhile Denison Gas has been awarded a tender to explore for gas to supply to Australian-only users from 568sq km of land south-east of Emerald in the Bowen Basin (see map below).
Queensland Mines Minister Dr Anthony Lynham announced the successful explorers today, saying the land release was about unlocking more gas for local manufacturing, industrial users, and securing jobs.
“Santos will explore across more than 2000 square kilometres of highly prospective areas in Queensland’s world class Surat and Bowen Basins,” he said. “Nearly half of this land can only produce gas for the domestic market”.
In addition to the Denison Gas tender, it meant that gas explorers were working more than 7000sq km of land in Queensland for gas for the Australian market, Dr Lynham said.
The latest tenures come on the back of more than 6700 square kilometres of land being opened to tender for gas exploration between Blackwater and Goondiwindi last week. See details below
