Townsville refinery proponents Pure Minerals and Queensland Pacific Metals are planning a local information evening on April 3.
Pure Minerals says it plans to invest $US300 million ($420 million) into the local economy by building the battery chemicals plant, bringing hundreds of job opportunities.

Pure Minerals is acquiring Queensland Pacific Metals, which has laid the groundwork to import high-grade nickel-cobalt ore from New Caledonia.
The ore will be processed using the DNi process to produce nickel sulphate and cobalt sulphate – which are required for the production of batteries.
