Fears New Acland future ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’

Fears New Acland future ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’ New Acland Mine supporters at a previous rally.

More than 700 community members are expected to rally at Queensland Parliament tomorrow to voice their concerns of the impact of proposed water legislation on New Acland Mine extension plans.

An $896 million continuation project is proposed to lift production at this New Hope Group open-cut operation from about 5Mtpa to 7.5Mtpa of thermal coal. Queensland’s Coordinator-General gave conditional approval in December 2014.

The company says rally supporters want Queensland’s political leaders to understand how proposed legislation will impact local farmers, businesses, service companies, suppliers, community groups and city electorates.

There is even a rally song for the occasion (play below to listen)

And for the really keen – here are the lyrics….

How many roads must a man walk down Before his voice can be heard

Yes, and how many years must our mine wait on Until the truth can be heard

Oh and how many years must our families wait, Our lives and our hopes put on hold

We’re here to take a stand, an answer we demand, from Lynham, Miles, Trad and Palaszczuk

Why are the green voices worth more than mine Than my son’s, my daughter’s, and my wife’s

Oh and why should some city slickers ever have the right Of ruining the future of us all

Oh and how many years must our families wait, Our lives and our hopes put on hold

We’re here to take a stand, an answer we demand, from Lynham, Miles, Trad and Palaszczuk

How long till commonsense rises again The everyday folk treated right

How many times will a pollie turn his head Pretending he just doesn’t see

Oh and how many years must our families wait, Our lives and our hopes put on hold

We’re here to take a stand, an answer we demand, from Lynham, Miles, Trad and Palaszczuk
