A prime selection of the Mackay region’s most innovative engineering and heavy industrial businesses are exhibiting together at this week’s Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME).
They are part of the Mackay Region Showcase, stand A616.
Mackay Regional Council, Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) and the Resource Industry Network (RIN) have joined forces to showcase the region’s leading innovators, presenting cost-effective, production-efficient engineering solutions for the resource sector.
Companies participating include Mackay Conveyor Equipment, Vayeron, East West Lighting, Jet Engineering,Viking Mechanical and Ideas Kitchen Consulting.
As the primary service hub to the world’s largest coal deposits in the Bowen and Galilee basins, the Mackay region has emerged as one of the leading mining equipment, technology and service (METS) centres in the world.
MACKAY CONVEYOR EQUIPMENT
Mackay Conveyor Equipment (MCE) specialises in the design, manufacture and overhaul of all conveyor pulleys in surface and underground mining, mineral processing and quarrying industries. Product research and development allows MCE to put quality innovative products and solutions into industry, in turn contributing to the satisfaction of customers and the ongoing growth and success of MCE. The company is committed to the continuation of work in this area and enjoys the challenge of continued innovation and solutions to complex problems. A snapshot of some of its proprietary equipment includes its Jibaroo, Wombelt, DD Series conveyor drives and S-Gear conveyor structure.
Jet Engineering specialises in small and medium-sized design and construct projects for clients throughout the Bowen Basin. Their capabilities include 3D laser scanning, 3D design and drafting, certification, fabrication, abrasive blasting, protective coating, assembly and installation. This unique combination of capabilities, coupled with an unrivalled level of mining industry experience, makes Jet the go-to business for fabrication projects which include research and development or design. Jet Engineering has been operating for 12 years and in that time has completed more than 3000 projects. Some highlights include their industry-leading QDS tyre handlers, highly innovative mobile bolting platform, and portal sealing doors for Oaky North Mine.
Vayeron. winner of the Out of the Box Award at this year’s Resource Industry Network (RIN) awards, is an OEM technology company focused on solving a key conveyor system productivity issue – conveyor roller-related downtime. Roller failure is a leading cause of conveyor system downtime and underground coalmine fires globally. Vayeron’s flagship product is the Smart-Idler system. The product is so named because it internally monitors the key characteristics of conveyor rollers, also known as “idlers”, and “intelligently” predicts and reports their failure. Smart-Idler reduces costly conveyor downtime, lowers conveyor maintenance and improves safety. Vayeron is providing intelligent solutions to industrial productivity challenges, particularly in the mining sector. The company is also a pioneer in the field of applying innovative “Industrial Internet of Things (Ilot)” technology for vibration analysis and condition monitoring.
EAST WEST LIGHTING
East West Lighting specialises in and innovates LED lighting. Their Link N Light product is an industrial LED lighting system that is a revolutionary solution to tough work environments, easy to install and functional. The versatile and reusable plug-and-play, integrated flexible cabling and light unit is made to last and withstand the tough and harsh mining, tunnelling, and industrial environments with an IP (ingress protection) rating of IP66. Primarily designed for underground lighting, Link N Light is an extra low-voltage LED lighting system that does not require an electrician or electrical personnel to install provided that the manufacturer’s guidelines are followed.
Viking Mechanical is a locally owned business conveniently located to service Mackay and the surrounding areas, including the Bowen Basin. In an effort to keep up with technological advances by using innovative environmentally friendly processes, Viking Mechanical has invested in one of only five Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) cleaning machines in Australia. Through flushing, the machine removes diesel soot and ash from the DPF, improving performance, reducing running costs and potentially saving clients up to 80 per cent of a replacement unit. Viking is the only company in central Queensland using this technology – helping companies maintain their environmental obligations.
