Qld produces top drop when it comes to H2O

Qld produces top drop when it comes to H2O Queensland delegates celebrate Barcaldine's State of Origin taste test win.

And the winner is…Queensland!

Barcaldine Regional Council has outclassed its New South Wales rivals in the water stakes to take out a State of Origin taste test.

The event was held during the Queensland Water Industry Operations Conference and Exhibition to coincide with the Maroons-v-Blues rugby league battle.

Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA) chief operations officer Craig Mathisen said the Barcaldine brand of H2O gained eight more votes than the sample from Nambucca, NSW, in blind tastings at the Rockhampton conference.

“The Nambucca Shire Council were the winners at our WIOA New South Wales conference and the Barcaldine Regional Council won the Queensland Water Directorate-conducted taste tests across Queensland – so we got the two together and, during the conference dinner, announced the winner at half-time in the footy,” Mr Mathisen said.

“So Queensland had a big night – they won both.”

So what makes a delicious drop when it comes to town water?

Mr Mathisen said visual clarity and aroma both played a role, but it really came down to personal preferences in terms of taste.

“Because these were the best in the two states it was really difficult to distinguish between the two,” he said.

“It’s a bit of a fun way to celebrate the operators’ role every day in putting water out to all the communities 24/7.”

The 41st Queensland Water Industry Operations Conference and Exhibition was hosted by local water service providers Fitzroy River Water over two days at the Central Queensland University Sports Centre in Rockhampton.
