Resource Industry Network has launched an advocacy project aimed at delivering the facts about the coal mining industry.
The Mackay-based organisation’s campaign is called ‘For the Future of our Region’ and will deliver a range of information that ensures the community is informed about the issues ahead of the May 18 federal election and beyond.
The project includes the development of a new website which tracks where local election candidates stand when it comes to supporting mining investment in Australia, the development of new thermal and metallurgical coal mines, ensuring mining commences in the Galilee Basin, and the construction of the required railway line in the Galilee Basin.
“The issue of coal mining is a complex one and not something that can be communicated in a single sentence, post, infographic or picture,” RIN general manager Adrienne Rourke said.
“The website will inform people about the facts and provide information around the value of coal mining and its significance, to not only regional communities, but to Queensland and Australia.
“I strongly encourage our community members to be informed voters at this election and understand the facts and what each candidate is supporting in regard to coal mining and the future of our region.”
