A high level of interest in Townsville City Council’s water pipeline industry information session has forced a change of venue.
With about 100 RSVPs, the event will now be held in the Walker St forecourt instead of the Mayoral Reception Room.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said there was huge interest from local firms about how to secure work on the 36.5km Haughton pipeline project.
“About 100 people have confirmed they are attending the Industry Information Session and I wouldn’t be surprised if even more turn up on the day,” Cr Hill said.
“This is one of the biggest infrastructure projects happening in Townsville and it will create a huge number of jobs.
“We want every local business to have the best opportunity to secure a slice of work on the pipeline project.”
The information session will bring together local contractors, subcontractors and suppliers to provide details on the project and how local firms can secure work on the pipeline.
Cr Hill said the next round of tenders would be for civil works on the pipeline, after council recently awarded the pipe manufacturing contract to Iplex.
