Three companies have been shortlisted to build the $250 million North Queensland Stadium.
The winning contractor will be appointed in April for a start to early works in the second half of the year.
The stadium was forecast to create up to 750 jobs, said Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt and 167 North Queensland companies had submitted expressions of interest, said Member for Townsville Scott Stewart.
That was around 40 per cent of all EOIs to date, Mr Scott said.

The North Queensland Stadium is a joint project of the Queensland Government, Australian Government and Townsville City Council and is supported by the National Rugby League (NRL).
