Mackay Airport welcomes the substantially increased capacity provided by Qantas Freight with the addition of a new B737 300 freighter service operating four nights per week exclusively for Australia Post and StarTrack customers.
Mackay Airport General Manager, Rob Porter, said the new Qantas Freight service is good news for business and industry in Mackay.
“It is a valuable service linking Mackay with other key regional Queensland cities, our capital and beyond,” Mr Porter said.
“It is also an indicator that the Mackay region is regaining economic strength and this is very encouraging to see after the challenges we have faced here over the past few years.”
“The Qantas Group is a key aviation partner for Mackay Airport with passenger and freight services provided by QantasLink, Jetstar and Qantas Freight.”
The new service will operate every Monday to Thursday evening and connect Brisbane – Mackay – Townsville – Cairns. This service adds to the existing Mackay based SAAB340 Qantas Freight aircraft which operates every Monday to Thursday between Mackay, Rockhampton and Brisbane.
Executive Manager Qantas Freight and Qantas Catering Group, Alison Webster, said businesses and people in Mackay rely on Qantas freighter services for urgent next day deliveries.
“We bring vital supplies of mail, parcels, machinery and parts into the Mackay region, and local seafood industries and producers rely on us to connect them to their domestic and international export markets,” Ms Webster said.
“A wide range of freight can be carried in the belly of our scheduled Qantas and Jetstar passenger services. We then supplement this with our evening freighter aircraft which are ideally timed to meet courier and mail cut-off times, making it possible for industry to deliver on next day express commitments. The main deck capacity offered on our freighters also allows Qantas Freight to transport larger consignments, including heavy machinery parts.”
Qantas Freight now operates two overnight domestic freighter networks across Australia. As well as the dedicated network for the Australia Post Group, Qantas Freight also continues to offer air freight capacity to the broader domestic market with 64 weekly
