Townsville City Council has given the green light for an entertainment precinct at the Fairfield Homemaker Centre, expected to create up to 200 jobs in construction.
It has approved a Material Change of Use application that paves the way for the development in Idalia.
The MCU is for a mixed-use entertainment development that will comprise of a rock-climbing facility, bowling alley and a cinema.
Developer Geon Property says Urban Climb will be the first major recreation tenant in the hub, providing Queensland’s first Olympic standard 15m high speed climbing course to Townsville.
Consideration of the MCU application was deferred to council chief executive officer Mike Chiodo after all councillors at a full council meeting on Tuesday identified a conflict of interest.
The council announced today that Mr Chiodo had approved the MCU after reviewing the application and the recommendations made by the officers which determined that the development was within the strategic intent of the Townsville City Plan.
