Golding Contractors will carry out preliminary works to restart operations at the Baralaba North coal mine in central Queensland.
The NRW Holdings subsidiary has executed a notice to proceed with owners Wonbindi Coal and Baralaba Coal Company, with the potential to lead to a $350 million mining contract over three years.
The scope of works includes mine planning, drilling, blasting, loading and hauling of overburden, loading and hauling of coal, and handling coal through the crushing and screening plant.
NRW Holdings chief executive officer and managing director Jules Pemberton described it as a great opportunity for Golding to add another full mine operation contract to its portfolio.
The Baralaba North coal mine was placed on care and maintenance, resulting in the loss of 75 jobs, after Baralaba Coal (then Cockatoo Coal) went into administration in 2015.
