Glencore’s coal business is providing thousands of New South Wales and Queensland farming families affected by drought with IGA gift vouchers for Christmas.
The company said it would be providing a $300 IGA gift voucher for groceries to 5800 farming families affected by the drought – one for each of its coal employees.
The donation will total $1.7 million and will be delivered in partnership with RuralAid, one of Australia’s largest rural assistance organisations.
Chief operating officer for Glencore’s Australian coal business, Ian Cribb, said that he hoped this gift in some small way helped farmers and their families have a more enjoyable Christmas.
RuralAid national business development Manager Wayne Thomson said the IGA gift vouchers being mailed to farmers would allow them to shop within their local communities, bringing a much-needed financial injection into their local economy.
