Former Brisbane Lord Mayor Jim Soorley has joined the board of TerraCom, the mining company restarting Clermont’s Blair Athol coal mine.
The company today announced Mr Soorley’s appointment as a non-executive director.
He joins another prominent Queensland Labour figure on the board.
Craig Wallace – the former member for Thuringowa, and State Minister for Main Roads, Fisheries and Marine Infrastructure from 2009 to 2012 – is TerraCom’s deputy chairman.
TerraCom executive chairman Cameron McRae described Mr Soorley as a highly successful leader in local government and business, demonstrated through his 12-year term as Lord Mayor of the City of Brisbane.
“Jim’s wealth of experience will allow him to provide guidance and leadership in stakeholder relations and management to the TerraCom team both within Australia and overseas,” he said.
Mr Soorley has a Masters of Organisational Development and Bachelor of Arts. He is the inaugural chairman of Unitywater and chairman of CS Energy.
