Far north Queensland companies are being encouraged to tender for works to update the fit out of a government office in Cairns to accommodate the Cairns District Youth Justice Service.
Member for Barron River Craig Crawford said the project on Spence St would provide work for a range of trades.
“There’s work on offer for businesses who can paint, construct new work areas and conference rooms, install updated conferencing facilities and lay carpet,” Mr Crawford said.
Tenders are also being called for construction of the new Gordonvale Police Station.
The project has been designated as an Indigenous Project under the Queensland Government Building and Construction Training Policy, which means at least 10 per cent of the work hours will be completed by local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander workers and apprentices.
Companies putting in a tender for the works will need to provide an Indigenous Employment Opportunities Plan.
