Lendlease’s Elliot Springs has awarded a $6 million contract for its first 4ha parkland to Townsville business Transcape Constructions.
Transcape Constructions will construct and landscape the park in three stages over the next two years, with stage one scheduled for completion in July.
Stage one of the park includes an all-inclusive playground suitable for children of all abilities, a learn-to-ride bike track, a mountain bike skills area and the first of five trails, barbecues, shelters and a three-kilometre return trip walking path.
Once complete in 2019, the park will include a community sports club and café, junior sports field, tennis court, netball court, off-leash dog park, areas for food vans and markets, and connections to more than 17 kilometres of walking and mountain bike trails.
“The parklands offer yet another option for the community of Townsville with the key feature and focal point being a 10m high ‘tree house’ with different levels and three slides,” Lendlease regional development manager Simon Walker said.
“We wanted to create a place that really resonated with Townsville and after an extensive consultation process found the community is looking for different options to keep kids entertained.
“The design also complements the natural landscape which has been adapted to ensure many existing trees are retained to provide natural shade.”
The $4.7 billion 1609ha Elliot Springs residential development, formerly known as Rocky Springs, will be rolled out over 40 years and is expected to become home to more than 26,000 people.
