Rockhampton is set to host the world’s best researchers, scientists and engineers from the field of road and rail vehicle system dynamics in August.
They will focus on everything from tyres, wheels, braking and aerodynamics to driver assistance systems, autonomous driving and condition monitoring.
In a first for Australia, the 25th International Symposium on Dynamics of Vehicles on Roads and Tracks will be held at CQUniversity Rockhampton North campus August 14-18
It’s only the second time the event has been hosted in the Southern Hemisphere.
Participants will team up to contribute to ‘state of the art papers’ for the symposium proceedings publication.
CQUniversity Professor Colin Cole says it’s a major coup for CQUni’s Centre for Railway Engineering to be organising the event.
“The star participants will be the leading researchers in vehicle system dynamics who make up the editorial board of the Prague-based IAVSD (International Association for Vehicle System Dynamics) and the many highly published authors in the program,” Professor Cole says.
“It is also an excellent opportunity for younger researchers, engineering staff training and for those maintaining continuing professional education.
“Vehicle dynamics simulation is now a primary tool for roadworthiness assessments, vehicle commissioning and accident and derailment investigations. A solid understanding of these sciences and the engineering assumptions and methods underpinning these is essential.”
The International Association for Vehicle System Dynamics (IAVSD) was formed in 1977 to promote the development of the ‘Science of Vehicle Dynamics’ (a discipline that is based upon the theory of motion of ground-based vehicle systems) and to encourage engineering applications of this field of science. The official journal associated with this group is the esteemed International Journal of Vehicle System Dynamics.
CQUni’s Centre for Railway Engineering is an industry-focused research organisation well known for its expertise in train dynamics, locomotive, wagon and bogie dynamics, wagon/track systems dynamics, simulation, instrumentation and field testing.
For the past 18 years, CRE researchers have benchmarked their vehicle dynamics research by involvement and publishing in this IAVSD forum.
