Senex has awarded the contract to build the Roma North gas processing facility and an associated pipeline to Wasco (Australia) following a competitive tender.
Civil works began this week at the Surat Basin project, with commissioning of the facility targeted for the second quarter of 2019.
Roma North, about 30km north of Roma, is part of Senex’s Western Surat Gas Project.
Senex expects to create about 150 jobs and invest more than $200 million in construction of its foundation gas developments Roma North and Project Atlas, 20km south-west of Wandoan.
These developments involve the construction of a combined 110 wells initially, two gas processing plants and associated pipelines and facilities over about two years.
Senex managing director and chief executive officer Ian Davies said the Wasco contract at Roma North would benefit the region through employment and business opportunities.
“This contract and early works are further milestones in the development of our gas business in the Surat Basin,” Mr Davies said.
“We are also pleased that the contract has been awarded to a company with established operations in Roma, where Senex will be operating and supporting the community for decades to come.”
The contract is expected to create about 50 jobs directly in construction and support further roles at local sub-contractors and Wasco’s continuing operations in Roma.
