Christmas Q&A – Adam Gowlett

Christmas Q&A – Adam Gowlett

Adam Gowlett is project manager with major Cairns residential development firm Kenfrost. He joined iQ for a quick Christmas Q&A….

What was the greatest challenge or failing in your industry/organisation in the past year? Dealing with the never-ending and ever-expanding raft of changes to legislation, rules and regulations at local, state and federal levels and that often these agencies continue to operate in silos yet expect everyone else to navigate through a maze of legislation that is contradictory.  We have governments playing lip-service to housing affordability, yet they continue to stymie the industry at every turn. My Christmas wish would be that when government’s consider housing and housing affordability they take an holistic view, develop legislation and regulations that are complimentary to each other and aim to make a meaningful difference in how we can deliver new communities, better, quicker and more affordably.

What are your goals and expectations for 2020? I hope the local government and state elections next year give us strong leadership. I hope those leaders understand the challenges of creating communities, affordability of housing, and how we do it in a way that minimises impacts and improves outcomes on many levels.  I hope that the economy softly recovers and stabilises and that improves the outlook for the industry and the community we serve.

How will you be spending the Christmas/New Year period? With family and friends and maybe even getting away into the bush for a bit and do our bit to support the mid/western Queensland economy!

What is the worst/funniest Christmas present you have ever received (or given)? You know those dangly bits of a male anatomy that people hang off their towbars – particularly on utes? Well, I do a fair bit of cycling, so I was given a glowing, flashing set of those to hang off my saddle – which was a good laugh.
