South32 Cannington Mine will conduct a planned underground and surface shutdown over the next fortnight, to allow for the maintenance and remediation of its assets.
More than 300 workers will descend on the site from a range of contractors including Dawsons, Jaysel, Veolia, NEM and the Freo Group.
The upcoming surface shutdown will be the second of three scheduled shutdowns for surface operations at Cannington this year, whilst the underground shut is the first of two breaks in the mine production schedule.
The silver-lead operation’s first surface close this year took place during February, in the middle of the weather event that caused devastation throughout North Queensland.
The scope of work during this shutdown includes general pump servicing, general hydraulic servicing, installation, maintenance and replacement of mining assets.
The underground shutdown is scheduled for May 23 – May 29 and the surface shutdown is from June 1 – June 6.
