Contractor SMC Marine is due to start work next month on a $900,000 boat ramp upgrade at Zelma Bay, near Sarina in Central Queensland.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the Queensland Government was funding an additional lane to widen the Grasstree Beach boat ramp and a new 2.5m wide floating walkway on the downstream side of the ramp.

“Grasstree Beach is a much sought-after location, providing access to pristine waters with nearby reefs and creeks for many locals and visitors to the Mackay region,” Mr Bailey said.

“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to investing in boating facilities for Queensland with $30 million committed towards projects like the Grasstree Beach boat ramp and others across the state through its Marine Infrastructure Fund.”

He said work crews would establish onsite by the end of March, with works due for completion mid-2019, weather permitting.
