Board of Inquiry appeal for public to come forward

The Queensland Coal Mining Board of Inquiry is calling for public information and examples specific to safety culture, gas management and ventilation practices in underground coal mining.

The appeal is part of its investigation into the blast at the Grosvenor mine near Moranbah on May 6 that injured five men. 

Anyone with relevant information should provide materials by September 14 via

Practice Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions, available on the board’s website, explain how to provide information.

In a public statement today the Board of Inquiry said sharing information could occur by:

  • Speaking confidentially with a member of the Inquiry team
  • Providing a written response, or email
  • Giving information if called to be a witness.

Public hearings for Tranche 2 of the Inquiry will commence on Tuesday, September 15, in the Brisbane Magistrates Court.
