Big jump in mining, resource and energy job ads New job advertisements grew by 32 per cent in the mining, resource and energy sector in 2018.

The mining, resource and energy sector was the star performer in Australia’s 2018 employment market, according to the latest figures from SEEK.

SEEK’s job ad data shows that 2018 was a strong year for the Australian employment market, with new job ads up 8.6 per cent over the 12 months.

Across all industries, the average advertised salary increased by 3.9 per cent.

Nationally Mining, Resource and Energy enjoyed the strongest growth in 2018, with new job ads up 32 per cent.

Trades and Services contributed to the greatest proportion of national job ad growth for 2018.

Compared to 2017, new job ads in Trades and Services were up 14 per cent.

Double digit year to year growth in the industry was evident across all states except for New South Wales, where the industry job ad volume was only up 5 per cent.

Information and Communications Technology was the second strongest contributor to job ad growth across the country in 2018, with job ads in the industry up 12 per cent compared to 2017.

Healthcare and Medical-related job ads also rose by 12 per cent in 2018 compared to 2017.

“It is good news for jobseekers that the 2018 employment market was stronger than the year prior,” SEEK managing director Kendra Banks said.

“More encouraging is that growth in the employment market has come from a diverse range of industries.

“There is demand for candidates that can carry out highly technical roles to those who can support the frontline service needs of our population such as in healthcare roles”.
