A fleet of equipment has been commissioned and drilling and blasting commenced at Baralaba North coal mine in central Queensland.
NRW Holdings subsidiary Golding Contractors last month executed a limited notice to proceed with owners Wonbindi Coal and Baralaba Coal Company, with the potential to lead to a $350 million mining contract over three years.
NRW said today the agreement had been extended to May 5 to allow the parties more time to optimise the mine plan and finalise the contract mining agreement.
During the extension period, a second fleet of plant is planned to be commissioned and coal production commence.
The Baralaba North coal mine was placed on care and maintenance, resulting in the loss of 75 jobs, after Baralaba Coal (then Cockatoo Coal) went into administration in 2015.
