The Cairns Performing Arts Centre earned the Project of the Year award for FK Gardner and Sons at the Master Builders Far North Queensland Housing & Construction Awards on Saturday.
The building contains state-of-the-art performance management equipment including lighting controls, prop lift systems, moveable orchestra pits and stage floor elevators.
Throughout the project’s duration, more than 1460 workers were employed on site, 60 local trade companies were engaged, 14,400 tonnes of concrete was poured, 6.3 million recycled glass bottles were used (as part of recycled construction materials), and 500 tonnes of structural steelwork was completed.
It also topped the Commercial Building over $50 million category at the FNQ awards.
Bungalow-based La Spina Homes won House of the Year and Home Renovation/Remodelling Project over $2 million with The Berther Residence at Trinity Beach (pictured below).
The winner of the 2019 Far North Queensland President’s Award was KCA Constructions FNQ for Mulgrave Design.
Master Builders’ Far North Queensland regional manager Sharon Vella congratulated all winners across the 42 categories.
“The standard of entries in this year’s Awards program was extremely impressive, it definitely makes our judges’ job harder,” Ms Vella said.
“And once more showcases the skill, knowledge and attention to detail that can be delivered by the builders in our region.”
