Industry gets behind R U OK? day PIC: Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson at the breakfast with Brett Jurd (Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal), Tim Magoffin and Simon McKenzie (Techserve).

The Resource Industry Network was among the many organisations throughout Queensland to mark R U OK? Day this week, hosting a Mackay breakfast for more than 130 resources industry representatives.

“It was fantastic to see the industry turn out in support of R U OK? Day” RIN general manager Adrienne Rourke said.

“Suicide prevention is of the upmost importance for our industry and we are committed to ensuring the mental health of all those employed in our sector is sustained by encouraging people to take the time to learn how to stay connected with each other.

“It’s really important that we all check in with employees, mates and loved ones on a regular basis.”

The breakfast – held at CQ Field Mining Services in Paget – also featured a presentation from Laurence Manning of local suicide prevention group Grapevine, who spoke about the safeTALK suicide alertness training program. A raffle was conducted and donations totalling $428 were raised for R U OK?

R U OK? is a national initiative that encourages people to meaningfully connect with those around them and support anyone struggling with life.
